There are now 18 residents at Camp Unity and during the past month, two people have moved to housing.
Welcome Dennis: We’re so happy to announce that Dennis Kronewitter joined the Camp Unity Eastside Board in August. Dennis became acquainted with Camp Unity by serving dinners with others from his church, Woodinville Church of Christ. He shared that talking with residents was like visiting a neighbor and he was impressed with the mission and organization of Camp Unity.
Dennis brings great experience from his professional work at The Boeing Company as an Aviation Maintenance Technician Inspector and from earlier work as an advocate for adults with disabilities. Dennis also volunteered as a Crisis Line operator, and an advocate at the Community Resource Center in Bellingham. Dennis has quickly jumped in by starting the prep work needed for repair of Camp Unity’s shower structure. Thank you Dennis!
New Link for CUE’s Meal Calendar: Camp Unity has a new link to reserve a date to bring a meal. To request a date, access the meal calendar here or at https://campunityeastside.com/meals-2/meal-calendar/. Bill Bear is still maintaining the calendar and helping with questions, and most of the process is very similar to what it has been.
We’re very grateful to Greater Seattle Cares (GSC) for hosting Camp Unity’s meal calendar for many years. Following GSC’s temporary website closure in August, we realized that it would be timely for Camp Unity to host this calendar so that GSC no longer needs to have this on their website.
Thank you very much to everyone who dropped off a meal during the past month. It truly means so much and makes a difference for the residents. If you haven’t had a chance to sign up yet, we would especially love your help with openings during the next month.
Cold Weather Supply Needs: It’s still warm outside though the cool days of fall and winter are not far away. Camp Unity needs cold weather supplies to help residents stay warm during the cold days ahead. This includes hand warmers, socks, gloves, hats, scarves and neck gaiters. There are two great ways to participate. You can sign up through the United Way Days of Caring which start on September 14. https://volunteer.uwkc.org/need/detail/?need_id=535206
Or, you can help out directly as an individual or group. We created a Camp Unity wish list on Amazon to provide examples of the kinds of winter supplies that are needed. This is provided only as an example – any other source and similar items are very welcome.
Supplies can be shipped directly from your place of purchase to Camp Unity Eastside c/o Northshore United Church of Christ (NUCC), 18900 168th Ave. NE, Woodinville, WA 98072. Or, the supplies can be delivered to Camp Unity, c/o NUCC, 18900 168th Ave. NE, Woodinville between the hours of 8 am and 8 pm, 7 days a week.
General Supply Needs: Thank you to everyone who brought much needed supplies during the past month. Special thank you to Woodinville Church of Christ for holding a fun drive through supply drive to benefit Camp Unity and Maltby Food Bank. For the latest needs, check out Camp Unity’s needs list or https://campunityeastside.com/camp-essential-needs/
Financial gift: If you would prefer to help with Camp Unity’s needs from home, please use this secure link to make a financial gift. Your gift helps ensure that Camp Unity can continue to provide a place for people experiencing homelessness to find shelter and community until they can regain housing.
Thank you for your continued thoughtfulness and generosity for the men and women at Camp Unity Eastside.
With gratitude,
Lori Peckol
