Camp Unity Eastside is currently hosted by Northlake Lutheran Church, Kenmore, and will be located there until late June. We are grateful to Northlake Lutheran Church and to many volunteers for generous help to the residents with meals, supply donations, and other support. There are 14 residents currently and during the past month, no additional residents have moved to housing.
Next Move – Need Help: Camp Unity will start its move from Northlake Lutheran Church to Northshore United Church of Christ, 18900 168th Ave. NE, Woodinville on Thursday, June 24. The move will continue through June 26 and possibly later. We’re seeking volunteers to help with the actual move on June 24 (9 am to about 1 pm) and June 25 and 26 (about 10:30 am to the afternoon). For the safety of residents and volunteers, we will likely again ask participants to maintain social distance and wear masks.
The camp’s kitchen will be dissembled for the move and these moves are tiring. We also need and would love your help to provide meals during the move. Help is needed on June 24 (breakfast and lunch), June 25 (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and June 26 (breakfast). Breakfast is about 7:30 am, lunch between 12 and 1 pm, and dinner at 6 pm. If you can help with the actual move or with any of these meals, please email Lori Peckol peckolvanwormer@gmail.com. Thank you very much for any help you can provide.
Thank You Father Frank Schuster: Father Frank has been the Pastor at Saint Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church for the past 14 years. He is also a strong and compassionate friend of Camp Unity Eastside. Father Frank will be responding to God’s call in his new service as Pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Federal Way. Father Frank has welcomed Camp Unity at St. Teresa Church three times between 2016 and 2020. For many years, he has brought hope, encouragement, and practical help to those sheltered at Camp Unity. Thank you, Father Frank for your leadership, service, and compassion that has helped countless numbers of people sheltered at Camp Unity and others in need in our communities.
A BIG GiveBIG 2021 Thank You!! We are very thankful to the 80+ donors who generously donated $15,000+ during our campaign to help Camp Unity continue to provide safe shelter and support for adults experiencing homelessness. We’re grateful also to several churches for pledges or gifts that led the way for GiveBIG. Thank you to Bear Creek United Methodist Church, Bread of Life Christian Church in Seattle, Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, Imprint Church, Northshore Community Church, Northshore United Church of Christ, Overlake Christian Church, Wooden Cross Lutheran Church, and Woven Church for your partnership. Your support and generosity mean so much. It will help fund essential services and support such as portable toilets, waste management, the camp van, moves to various hosts, and addition and replacement of equipment.
Meals: We are incredibly grateful that generous volunteers committed to bringing a dinner each night in May and preceding months this year and that many have signed up for upcoming months. This is such a big help for residents. There are openings on Camp Unity’s meal calendar in June and July. If you can help, please sign up at https://campunityeastside.com/meals-2/meal-calendar/.
Supply Needs: The camp’s primary supply needs now are batteries (D size), frozen hamburgers, a nonstick skillet and spatula, and men’s clothing for warmer weather. Check out Camp Unity’s supply list for more details https://campunityeastside.com/camp-essential-needs/. Thank you!
We are grateful for your kindness and generosity for the residents at Camp Unity Eastside.
