Welcome Alana:   We are thrilled that Alana McWade joined the Camp Unity Eastside Board in June.   Alana brings great experience and knowledge from her volunteer and professional roles.   For several years, she volunteered with Hopelink by teaching financial classes and also volunteered with the Sammamish Chamber of Commerce.   Alana is the AVP Store Manager/Branch Manager for Umpqua Bank in Redmond and has years of experience in building relationships with a diversity of people.   Alana is serving as the Camp Unity Board Secretary and is also helping with outreach in support of site hosts for Camp Unity.   Thank you Alana!!

Seeking Temporary Shower Access:   Camp Unity needs to replace portions of the shower that have worn out.  Because the shower will not be useable during construction, we need a temporary shower solution for 1 or 2 weeks.    Do you know of any organizations or businesses that might allow access to their shower or may have a portable shower for low or no cost?  If you have any leads or ideas, please contact Lori Peckol at peckolvanwormer@gmail.com.

Volunteer Opportunities and Needs:  Thank you generous supporters for meals, supplies and financial gifts during the past month!   Your care and compassion have helped so much as residents have completed set up at Northshore United Church of Christ (NUCC).  There are currently 15 men and women at Camp Unity and during the past month, no additional residents have moved to housing.

Here are some great opportunities to help during the next month:

  • Meals and Meal Calendar Update:   The highest priority need is help with dinners in August.   If you can help, please sign up on the camp’s meal calendar. Don’t have time to cook?  Dropping off frozen burgers and fixings for the residents to grill some night is a great alternative.   There is a bench in the parking area at NUCC, 18900 168th Ave. NE, Woodinville for volunteers to drop off food or supplies so that all can maintain safe social distance.
  • Supplies:   The highest priority supply needs are 8.5 by 11-inch paper for the office printer, c-fold towels and paper towels.  For more info, check out Camp Unity’s needs list or https://campunityeastside.com/camp-essential-needs/ .  Thank you King County COVID-19 Homelessness Response for providing personal protection supplies, including masks, hand sanitizer and gloves.  And thank you Congregations for the Homeless for assisting with this delivery. It has been difficult to acquire these supplies – this is a big help!

Camp Unity in the News:  Check out this recent article about Camp Unity’s adjustments to reduce the risk of coronavirus for current and future residents and volunteers.  Thank you Laura Guido with the Woodinville Weekly.

Still Seeking Additional Board Members:  Are you passionate about helping people in need, motivated, forward thinking and a good communicator?  Would you like to help make a difference in people’s lives as part of a successful organization?  If yes, Camp Unity is still seeking additional candidates to join the board.   The board meets monthly and each board member is an active participant in helping to achieve Camp Unity’s mission.   More information is available by contacting Mark Van Wormer at marksvanwormer@outlook.com.

Thank you for your generosity and care for the men and women at Camp Unity Eastside.

With gratitude,

Lori Peckol
