Greetings friends, I hope your Fall season is off to a good start.   Below are updates for Camp Unity including for the upcoming move, needs, and other topics.

Need Help with the Next Move

Camp Unity’s next move will start on Thursday, October 21st and will continue through at least October 23rd.  A big thank you to Northshore United Church of Christ for hosting Camp Unity these past few months and to Bear Creek United Methodist Church for being camp’s next host!

We need your help with the move and there are several ways to join in.  Thank you to those who have volunteered already – we have a great start!

Muscle:  We need volunteers to help with the actual move on 10/21 (9 am to about 1 pm), 10/23, and likely 10/22 (start time in the morning TBD).   For the safety of residents and volunteers, we will ask participants to maintain social distance.

Meals:  Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to provide breakfasts, lunches or dinners during the move.   We are already all set!!

Munchies/Drinks:   Another awesome way to help is by stopping by the move with cold drinks and snacks like granola or protein bars.

Moving Supplies:  We also need help with move supplies.  About 1 to 2 weeks prior to the move we’ll post a list of supply needs like zip ties, contractor bags, etc… on Camp Unity’s website at:  https://campunityeastside.com/camp-essential-needs/.

If you can help in any of these ways, please email Lori Peckol peckolvanwormer@gmail.com.  Thank you very much for any assistance you can provide.

Hosts Needed:    The CUE Board is still seeking hosts for Camp Unity starting in mid-summer 2022. Hosting camp is an opportunity to provide a life-changing service to camp residents and enables congregation members to use a variety of gifts and talents as hosts.

If you would like additional information or have ideas regarding potential hosts, please contact Michael Rader at mikejrad69@gmail.com.  Wondering what hosting Camp Unity is like?   Check out https://campunityeastside.com/host-camp-unity/ for perspectives from current Camp Unity hosts and for other information.

Resident Update:  There are now 15 people staying at the camp and during the past two months, one person has moved to housing.    We’re thankful that to our knowledge, no Camp Unity residents have contracted COVID-19.

Meals:   Shout out to everyone who has brought dinners and other meals to the residents at Camp Unity.   So far this year, volunteers have provided dinners more than 90% of the days – that’s amazing and helps the residents a lot.

There are openings on Camp Unity’s meal calendar during the rest of the year.  If you can help, please sign up at https://campunityeastside.com/meals-2/meal-calendar/.

Some special food requests we’ve heard recently from residents include meals like tacos, burritos, or fajitas with ready to go ingredients (meat, cheese, veggies, etc…) that residents can assemble; chocolate milk, hot chocolate, chocolate….; Pho bowls or Nongshim Tonkotsu or similar ramen bowls (available at Costco and other locations).

Supply Needs:   The camp’s primary supply needs now are dinner-size disposable plates, bowls, and cups (12 oz or larger).  Check out Camp Unity’s supply list for more details https://campunityeastside.com/camp-essential-needs/.    Thank you to all who have helped to keep the camp well supplied.

Financial gift:  If you would prefer to help with Camp Unity’s needs from home, please use this secure link to make a financial gift.   Your gift helps ensure that Camp Unity can continue to provide a place for people experiencing homelessness to find shelter and community until they can regain housing.   Thank you to everyone who has supported Camp Unity in this way.

We are grateful for your care and kindness.
