In mid-November Camp Unity Eastside (CUE) will move from Northshore United Church of Christ (NUCC) to Kirkland Congregational Church. We are so grateful to both of these very caring and generous hosts.
Help Needed for Move: The planned start date for the move is November 13 and it will likely take a few days – until November 15 or 16. Out of continued caution for the health of residents and volunteers, CUE residents plan to complete the actual move and setup without the help of volunteers.
We would love your help with other pieces that are essential to a successful move:
-Meals: We especially need help with lunches and dinners during the move. Currently lunches are needed most days November 13 to 15 and dinners for those nights without volunteers yet. If you can help, please sign up via CUE’s meal calendar https://campunityeastside.com/meals-2/meal-calendar/ and note which meal you’d like to bring or email Lori at peckolvanwormer@gmail.com.
-Supplies: We need 14-inch long zip ties (2 large packs), duct tape (several rolls), contractor bags, and several pairs of sturdy work gloves – large. If you can help, please drop off supplies to CUE at NUCC, 18900 168th Ave. NE, Woodinville.
Welcome John: We’re excited that John Eagle joined the CUE Board in September. John has a big heart for helping to make a difference in people’s lives. He has volunteered since he was a youngster with his family. During the past several years, he was involved with forming and supporting the operation of a cold-weather shelter in Monroe. He has also volunteered as part of the Skykomish Valley Indian Education program and the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. He serves actively as part of the Woodinville Church of Christ congregation.
John brings great professional experience from his work at HD Fowler Company. His skills and experience in business, construction, communication, outreach, fund development and social services are a tremendous addition. We are grateful to him for joining the Camp Unity board and returning the board to 7 members!
Cold Weather Supply Needs: Camp Unity needs cold weather supplies to help residents stay warm this Fall and Winter. This includes hand warmers, socks, gloves, hats, scarves and neck gaiters.
We created a Camp Unity wish list to provide examples of the kinds of winter supplies that are needed Amazon wish-list OR (https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2XWBDE8F12FGS?ref_=wl_share). This is provided only as an example – any other source and similar items are very welcome.
If you’d like to team with friends, co-workers or members of your faith community, below is a link to Moda West on Amazon which includes cold weather gear in larger quantities and lower prices. This page includes gloves, hats and scarves. https://www.amazon.com/96-Pack-Wholesale-Unisex-Assorted/dp/B07MKNZC7W?ref_=ast_sto_dp
During October, supplies can be shipped directly from your place of purchase to Camp Unity Eastside c/o NUCC, 18900 168th Ave. NE, Woodinville, WA 98072. Or, the supplies can be delivered to Camp Unity at NUCC between the hours of 8 am and 8 pm, 7 days a week.
General Supply and Meal Needs: Thank you to everyone who brought a dinner or much needed supplies. Because of you, residents have enjoyed a warm dinner nearly every day during the past month and received much needed items like hand warmers, paper towels, lighting and other supplies. Looking ahead, we especially need help with meals in November To help, check out the links for CUE’s meal calendar and needs list provided at the beginning of this update. There are 18 residents at CUE and during the past month, 3 have moved to housing and 2 more plan to move to housing shortly.
Financial Gift: If you would prefer to help with Camp Unity’s needs from home, please use this secure link to make a financial gift. We are very grateful for every gift! Your support helps ensure that Camp Unity can continue to provide shelter for people in need until they can regain housing. Do you have an employee giving program at work? You may be able to increase the impact of your gift by through an employer match.
Thank you for your generosity and care for the men and women at Camp Unity Eastside.
With gratitude,
Lori Peckol
